In Response To: Mercury silence (midwestfire)

I am pretty much just a beginner asking stupid questions. see "How much to run gas burners" above but I read your post and I have an idea that may or may not help. It seems to me that if you turn in your boss to the EPA OSHA etc he will certainly know or at least strongly suspect it was you and you will likely be fired not a good thing in this economy. Or they might fine him or close him down. Also not going to help you. But what if you went to Home depot etc. and bought say a 50 ft 1 1/2" diameter plastic hose that you could then attach to the vacuum pump outlet to vent the mercury vapor outdoors or maybe to a vacuum trap that I have seen for sale before somewhere. I know when I bought my vacuum pump a trap for this sort of thing was one of the things that were offered as an accesory. I think you could buy the hose for maybe a 100 dollars or less I am not sure what a trap would cost. If you offered to install this new safety equipment in your bosses shop for free on your own time I dont think any reasonable person would object unless he is a complete ass. Then you would be safe or at least much safer and there would be no hard feelings. Just a thought good luck.
