Hey All!

Here's my addition to the crackle techniques pile.
I believe that washing the glass is essential.  I also agree that 
external bombardment is the best.  That is kiln heated and induction heat 
the electrodes.

One thing we did when this extra equipment was not available was to 
attach the lamp to the pump via a small dia vacuum hose.  This allowed 
us to turn the lamp over during bombarder off cycles.  This was a help 
since the glass inside of course falls to the bottom forcing the arc path 
to ride the top causing uneven heating.  We also do a little dance with 
our torches (single tip blowpipe) bathing the the lamp in flames as we work.
