Here's another way. I have made mandrels from hollow brass stock. I
preheat the brass and feed the glas accross the ribbon and onto the
brass. You can mark the brass with chalk. The angle of the brass to the
ribbon will set your helix pitch. You can anneal on the brass since the
metal has a higher coe it will shrink away upon cooling.
It really works. once I had to make two identical coils that would screw
together. One red one blue.
