In Response To: Question about didymium glasses (John Dragun)

The didymium glasses are great for picking out subtle differences in color temperature.

Last week I made a few sample pieces of 6500 Snow White and HO out of Voltarc, EGL, and FMS brand glass I have on hand. The color of the 'snow white' pieces through the glasses ranged from yellows (Voltarc and FMS) to blueish (EGL). None of the 'Snow Whites' were even close to each other. Oddly, the EGL snow white matched a FMS 6500 HO unit fairly well, and EGL's 6500 HO compared more to a Voltarc 8300 bright white.

I've noticed that to my eye, very dim older white units seem to maintain their color hue fairly well (assuming they aren't pink)when viewed through the glasses, which is helpful considering that a UV color checker is more or less useless on the darkened phosphors inside.
