Doug,
If someone at the school has an ultrasonic cleaner, use that with a 50/50 solution of industrial strength floor stripper (floor wax remover), such as Zep brand available at Home Depot. Disassemble everything as much as possible first. Do *not* put anything aluminum in the solution. It will oxidize the aluminum and turn it black. If an ultrasonic cleaner is not available try Don's suggestion. Muriatic acid is also available at home improvement centers. One use for it is to clean concrete floors prior to painting them.
