Venturi Mixers

This forum seems extremely dead, but maybe by posting here I'll breathe some life back into it?

I'm working on setting up shop. I need to build mixers for the torches I picked up at auction. Most of my source books say I need to use venturi mixers, but I'm having a hard time sourcing them. All I can find are the ambient-air mixers, nothing like the T style venturis depicted.

Is this really necessary, or can I get away with just a brass T-fitting?

What about flash-back arrestors? None of my books even mention them.
