In Response To: Ruby Red (Gavin)

I don't know if anyone on the industry front line wants to stick their neck out on this one, but here's my understanding.

The primary source of the colored glass in the neon industry is Effetre in Murano. For Effetre to make a run of a color, it's a pretty big project and investment. They're requiring a sizable minimal order for glass, we're talking tons, I believe. At this point, the economics of the neon industry are such that none of the companies that "finish" the tubing for our use, are able to place such a large order. The demand just isn't there.

From what I've heard other manufactures in the world have been coming close to making usable tubing for years, but getting the transparency right is very difficult, then they have to get everything else right.

Again, this is just as I understand it. Others know differently?
