In Response To: Re: bombarding trouble ***see video (sean s)

Thanks for the response Sean, here's the problem

I built this setup out of previously used equipment and my other setup doesn't give me near the trouble when pumping 2) 8' tubes. Normally I start bombarding at 2 torr, sometimes on longer tubes I take it down to 1 torr to get the initial arc, maybe takes 30 seconds before it's pumping normal... that is my other setup.

On this setup, I have to bring the vacuum down to 0 (zero) and crank up the variac, and keep bringing the vacuum down as it wants to rise. I'm constantly fiddling with the variac and vacuum for close to 10 minutes with no consistency. I was finally able to pump two 8 footers, but it was not the normal procedure. The bombarding transformer is actually bigger than my other setup, so I thought I would have less problems on longer tubes. The choke is in question to me because it is (physically) smaller than my eurocom choke. But maybe I'm way off.
