your flickering is coming from moisture. In the beginning seconds (maybe longer) you will have to pump at a higher vacuum to keep the arc going until ou heated most of the initial vapor out and can maintain an arc. You can also pull an ultimate vacuum then back fill with a torr of air then bomb. There is nothing wrong with your system. You just have more footage to carry an arc through.
