Thanks so much for your response. I'll be able to take pictures tomorrow when I'm back at my studio. I think most electrodes these days have the glass clamped down on the wires at the end of the tube. The "recessed" connections have those, but down in a small tube that's inside of the tube. The end is open for the wires to come out. I wouldn't be surprised if they were pre-50's, I found some boxes of glass tubing that were labeled from a distributor that closed in 1960. I'll post up pics later tomorrow. Thanks again!
