Hello all....WOW Mark, you have a 24" Haydu Bros. end mounted ribbon??? Nice!! I'd like to see a photo of that! As for Blazeks' "invention", I agree, the blower is inadequate especially for classic/lead-free however I've been considering buying a used one and retrofitting it with a higher powered squirrel cage sourced from a garden grow supply shop. As for me enjoying the use of my 6" ribbon....first off it does keep my shop cooler. I keep my burners on all day when bending. The 6" is a bit narrow of a screen compared to a 16". I habitually leave my slide at a minimum of 1.5 inches at all times sometimes more as needed. When I switch to my 16" for sweeping bends etc. I habitually leave the slide open to a longer flame at all times hence more heat accumulating through my shop. I have a 7 point Haydu Bros. crossfire, and i also use BMT tips, depending on what I'm working with. I do indeed use my 6" for double backs and have for years. I have no issue with a "thin doubleback" as I gather my glass over the fire, and, before I perform the doubleback, I gently bend my heated area down, so as to make a "puddle" of hot glass gather there before I return to bending the tube upwards as normally done. Final results....my doublebacks can pass the 'bounce off the table' test and they never break from being too thin. I've actually used a hot wire cutter and split one open and the glass is nearly as thick as original on my bent doubleback. So, to each their own with bending and heating techniques and fire preferences as we already know that. I find using a ribbon to perform my doublebacks results in less twisting of my fingers and wrists and less labor especially after all these years of bending, my hands and fingers sometimes ache from doing this repeatedly through the years. When I need to swap out ribbon heads, I do it "on the fly" by tossing a rag on the hot burner and lifting off, setting it off to the side, and then quickly put the other burner right on and use a lighter to ignite, sometimes needing to adjust obviously if doing a long heat with lead free.My haydu 7 pt crossfires get pretty dang hot but when I use these, my glass gets as equally gathered in the right spots resulting in the same high quality bend. I like to use the 7point when doing 15mm drop twists as they get nice and precise angles without becoming too rounded off. By the way, anyone have a mini roots blower model they want to sell? I once had one about the size of a volleyball that was excellent in output and quiet too been searching for that model for years-
