Classic Glass requires an adjustment to regular methods of working with lead glass (or even the new lead free glass).

In short, you need a hotter flame, and more attention to even heating/cooling is required to eliminate cracking when cooling. It has a higher "working temp" with a shorter window to accomplish that work. Trying to move/ work the glass when not hot enough will create enormous strain in the glass and will crack when cooling. Little or NO "block work" should be used (as this creates uneven cooling). Get the glass off of pattern/table as Fast as possible on ribbon heats too... and place on other glass spread on a table to cool.

Believe it or not... classic glass produced today is much more uniform in diameter and wall thickness than years ago. Actually easier to work with.

I don't want to jump to conclusions, but it sounds like your tubebender may not be experienced with classic glass. I don't believe the glass is defective.
