> KEVINWhat have you done to attempt to collect? Every state is a little different, but laws are usually similar between states. In SC, if someone writes you a bad check you can literally have them arrested. Present the returned check, which should be marked "NSF" (non sufficient funds), to your local magistrate and fill out a complaint form and the judge will have a deputy pay the guy a visit. OH may have a similar law.
You may also take the check to a branch of his bank and talk to the branch manager (customer service should also be able to handle it). They will put a hold on his account for the check amount. As soon as there is enough money in his account they will debit his account and give it to you.
I have used both of these methods in SC and they worked without a hitch. Usually, if the first method is available to you, all you have to do is call the guy and tell him he has X number of days to bring you cash money or you will have him arrested. That usually gets their attention ;-)
