You are still in doubt? ;)

May be you are sure, but by using mercury at home I will be already stretching things a bit. So better for it to stay where it belongs. Also no toxic junk will be left in a pumping fork. And no air flow over mercury will make less vapours released on succesfull pump-up too.

But I still prefer xenon solution.

Actually I did some calculations, industrial limit for Hq is around 0.05 to 0.1 mg/m3, so dispersing up to 1mg in 20m3 room does not look like a catastrophe until done repeatedly.

But it is not the case with large 200mg gobs regulary put in tubes and that's in part a reason why industry got its bad reputation.

Funny thing is that officially here the sale of mercury seems to be prohibited. But as laws are lax, all neon suppliers continue to sell it disguising as "Technological liquid". More fun, on the edge of stupidity, was to watch recent neon shop documentary on TV, where a worker at manifold is shown putting some large (in that 200mg range) drop of Hg from injector when saying "I put technological liquid", "I spread technological liquid" etc...
