Second, research, learn and practice a good flame annealing technique, particularly with lead-free clear or coated, or soda glass such as Ruby Red, Bromo Blue, etc. You will need a Polariscope to determine your results (every neon shop should have one these days). You can only use the scope with uncoated tubing, but it will help you develop your flame annealing technique so you won't have problems with coated glass.
