I have never seen anything but alligator clip boots used for this. but some are better than others, having a small lip at the 'mouth' to help retain the boot plus pliability seems to be hallmark of the better made ones.

I have been using the 'Mueller' clip style. The 'flat' finish boots instead of the shiny ones seem to indicate a difference in better quality.

I bought an assortment of these from Mouser recently which typically handles higher end components.

If there are silicone boots that fit, i am all for it.
