I know this is getting a little old, but my two cents. For cheapy window signs I have been using NeonPro. They are ME1209030 9000 30mA NeonPro SS Transformer (which is only a 6k) and ME12012030 12000 30mA NeonPro SS Transformer (Which is only 8k) but I have had no problems. From Wensco (http://www.wensco.com) they are $27.11 and $33.89. I have had good luck with them so far.
