I've had the best experience lately with Ventex and Tech22. Ventex wasn't always good - but the past few years they seem to have really improved their product to the point it's close to magnetic reliability.

Tech22 by far offers the most options for animation, flashing, dimming. Main drawback is lack of a 60ma model and a cap at 8000v. Due to their small size however, it's very easy to use multiple units on a sign.
