In Response To: single wire electrode (Eric R)

Fifteeen years ago I helped clean out the attic of a former neon shop prior to demolition. It was full of old gear and processed tubes, last operating as a neon business in the mid to late 60's.

Most of the tubes had weird looking electrodes. A real fat body housing the electrode shell and the top has a rolled lip with a cavity down the centre. Some tubes with doublebacks had a piece of tie wire twisted around a wire loop that connected to the electrode shell, others with 90 degree ends had a spike-type of electrode connection for an old model of housing.

I wish I had saved some of these old electrodes for reference. Many of the tubes lit up when we got back to our shop but we disposed of them after dealing with the excessive mercury found in many units.
