I knew I'd be opening up a can of hate, but attacking my integrity because I suggested something practical? Seriously?

I just spent a fortune and the better half of 2010 setting up a neon studio of my own. If I didn't care about neon I would have saved all my money and time and just bought a soldering iron or a stack of florescent tubes from home depot XD. If you took the time to Google my name (instead of just trashing me) you'd see that I don't use neon exclusively in my art either. I use a mixed media approach sometimes using LEDs, incandescent bulbs, phosphorescent powder, EL Wire, or a combination of two or more together.

The point I'm trying to make is that if people want LEDs, they're going to get them whether you sell them or not. From a business perspective it's very short sighted and stupid to shun a popular medium. Especially if it can support promoting the medium you care about more. Every time I talk with one of my friends in the trade, they moan and groan about how bad the neon industry is, and frankly I think it's pessimistic and petty. Some people even have the stupidity to tell their customers about the woes of the neon industry. Yeah, like that will give people confidence about the viability of neon... Neon ISN'T going to die. Anyone who knows their ass from their elbow knows there is nothing that can completely replace it.

Artists use all the resources available to create the best product they can. The good ones are also business savvy and won't look down a good opportunity for hire to support personal work. Sign shops that want to increase sales should do the same. Business is Business.
