Or... maybe this guy came across an old edition of Millers book or even some old manufacturers catalogs that depicted the item and figured it has been a long time since anyone used these and everyone has forgotten about ti and decided to "reinvent" it. Or he may have just stumbled across an old injector thrown in a corner somewhere and resurrected it.

Personally I think you are giving him way too much credit for thinking outside the box. I base my opinion on my observations of the rest of his set up. As I said before, not even a fill pressure gauge, much less anything else other than his "mercury batcher".

And before we get off the subject, I wonder what they do when they have to pump a red unit? I imagine they have to cut off the soft glass injector and hope that will do the trick. Either that, or they admit the red gas through the droplets of mercury in the filling arm and keep their fingers crossed. But if their best vacuum is nowhere near the single digit micron range it probably wouldn't matter. But how can they tell with no vacuum gauge?
