In Response To: equipment vs. cold weather question (stampeder)

Why leave the pump drained? That would spell trouble for parts that will dehydrate and probably become unusable. I would fill the pump once it was in place, turn the vane to coat the parts up, then drain & refill when you are ready to setup. (has the pump already been drained for a long time-use caution, buyer)

All the fluids in your system (diff oil, butyl, vac) should be replaced when you are ready to setup again and all manifold seals cleaned and refit.

That is really the least you can do when your main problem will be getting everything to perform to an acceptable standard.

Silica gel packed with parts that will easily rust can help, as can a light coat of machine oil on metal parts. Protect your stored parts from daily temp fluctuations as much as possible.

It is usually best to pack and seal equipment than to just leave it exposed in storage.
