There is no one size fits all lighting technology. LEDs are fantastic for some applications. They're a great improvement to flashlights, automotive tail lights, traffic signals, large outdoor video screens, stuff like that. IMO nothing will ever come close to the look of real neon, it's fantastic stuff that has fascinated me for as long as I can remember

The problem is that the great improvements in LEDs in recent years have created this buzz that they're the greatest thing ever for everything. When all you've got is a hammer, everything looks like a nail... There are some that offer very good performance, but most of the LEDs on the market are import knockoffs and I've had quite a few not last as long as the small incandescent lamps they replaced. On top of this, anyone who makes anything here (in the US) is competing against the dirt cheap labor in China and whether you make neon or picnic tables it's hard to do that.

Hang in there if you can, unfortunately I don't see a lot of future in the business as far as primary income goes, but I don't want to see it go away.
