You can play around with clear lead or soda glass, but I am guessing most durable ornaments would be made of pyrex/borsillicate glass.

Although our fires will soften pyrex, to be truly "workable" you'll at least need a propane/oxygen mix for a hotter flame.

Anyway, it's a whole new ballgame when working with pyrex, but fun nonetheless when exploring new avenues in glassblowing.

Mark (being a scientific glassblower) at SVP should have lots of info for you.
