In Response To: Mercury (Winslow)

I read the same article and have been thinking about what the issues with mercury recycling will hold for those of us who don't have a program in place. Given the current political shift of the country to the left and the push for "green" thinking, it may be in the best interest of the neon shops to anticipate such recycling requirements and their costs, even if the laws in your state don't currently require it.

With the relatively small number of neon shops in the country, I can't imagine this trade dumping mercury on the scale of say, disposed flourescent lamps, CFLs, or large industries. But the sort of lobbying that the LED industry used to get laws passed against the sale of mercury neon tubes in Vermont could easily be used in other states. We all might want to keep on eye on this in the near future and be prepared to protect our jobs.
