It is my understanding the merc. migration is caused by a DC current component in the secondary, which causes the vapor to move in one direction. The time-honored way of "fixing" it is to reverse the secondary leads thereby causing the merc. to go the other way. Of course this is not a fix at all, but it will tell you if it is the power supply: Reverse the leads and if the problem shifts to the other end you are sure it's the power supply (don't know what else it would be though). In that case, contact the mfg. or switch brands - or both.
