I'm not surprised. I think the regens sold for small shops here are usually way too large. This probably happened because everyone still seems to go by that rule you need 2psi, like the old Neon Techniques mentions. Roots blowers were the norm at that time. Only gargantuan regens get that high (and at those pressures they are just putting out a dribble).

The burners themselves don't need anywhere near 2psi - and the only reason I see needing it is to force air through the small needle valves that were once popular for controlling burners. Nowadays, most people (who have regens) use a regular gas or water stopcock, which is considerably larger.

Higher pressures ARE nice, as you can run smaller tubing, have the blower much further away, and use those needle valves which do have fine control. But with large pipes and valves, a tiny 1/4 hp regen can work great.
