The purpose of oiling is simply as a short-term rust inhibitor. When a steel tubular burner is oiled, one must be especially careful to avoid oil contact with orifices and valves - and in the case of this burner, this was not difficult. After oiling, one should wipe away all the oil that will remove with a clean rag. Any residue that can be transferred back to the skin is too much.
