The phosphors in a working tube degrade over time. Some more than others, but they all do it. Comparing a broken unit that may be a few months to several years old will not look exactly the same as a new piece of glass, whether the phosphors are being excited by the UV from the mercury discharge inside a repaired unit, or the UV from a color checker. Also, colors have been known to vary (sometimes considerably) from batch to batch. Again, some more than others and depending on quality control. It is not unheard of for new glass of the same color, but from two different batches, to not match exactly.
