O.K. Here is an idea whose time may be just around the corner, how about devising a way to inject mercury vapor directly into the tube while still on the manifold, just before filling with gas?
Or maybe a mercury vapor flask simliar to the gas flasks we use for argon and neon. What do you think? Don
