The broader view of it

Good grief Robby, perhaps I considered the paragraph from a little broader perspective than you and that's why I said "Huh?" I understood what John was saying. I just couldn't believe the implication.

I always thought it was the high voltage from one end of the transformer trying to jump the gap of an incomplete circuit that caused one end of a tube to flicker? Sure, there *may* be some leakage to a potential ground that may help (depending on a host of different things, least not of which is the amount of dirt on the sign, moisture content in the dirt, composition of it, etc., etc., etc.) But looking at the statement, what about a single electrode art piece sticking straight up in the air with nothing around it except the air? And let's put it in a dry, air conditioned room. Where is the capacitive coupling to ground? I think the term you used was "concept". Seems to fit well in this context.

I have always openly admitted that electrical "stuff" is not my strong suit. Consequently I prefer to use a common sense approach to things of this nature rather than a theoretical one. But this thread clearly indicates it is not someone else's strong suit too.

To answer your question, I have not pumped many units this past year - probably only 400-500. I would have to look at my records to see for sure. It could have been a little more. But there have been times when I pumped that many in a week, sometimes more than that.

Btw, Robby, did you enjoy the articles I used to write for SOT and SBI magazine too? ;-)

Happy New Year!
Mark
