Didn't mean to sound defensive--just coming off four straight days of 15mm ruby-grr!
You're right about Masonlite putting the mica in to satisfy US customers. I also heard that from a Masonlite rep at a NESA seminar back in 1990.
Just one other point: all mica will eventually succumb to the beating it takes from the arc stream in a tube. You often find that fine graphite-like powder that used to be the mica sleeve in a clear tube that has sputtered. It can spread throughout the tube creating a bunch of hot spots and star checks and render the tube unrepairable. I guess that's also a reason why I'm not a big fan of mica in an electrode.
Have a happy holiday season! Chris.
