We have been testing these to a small extent. Specifically the 13mm full length electrodes on a 12mm x 4 ft. clear red tube running on 120 mA. I would have to look at the number of hours they have been running thus far, but so far there are no signs of sputtering or other degradation. They look as clean today as they did initially.

I am aware of "GB" using them too, as well as another shop who has some test units in the field that have been running 24/7 for over a year now. They reported the same results: No signs of sputtering or other degradation whatsoever, with the mercury tubes being as clean now as when they first went up.

I will add this for what it's worth: I recently was given some samples of the new Transco electrodes. They look *almost* identical to the JA electrodes, with the possible exception of one or two minor cosmetic differences. The most noticeable one is a slightly different ceramic collar, though some collars in the Transco's have the same exact telltale markings that the JA's have, which is a symbol and number molded into the ceramic. Everything else looks about the same from a visual standpoint. This would lead one to believe that the new Transco electrodes are also being made in China by the same factory that is making the JA's. I do not know this as absolute fact, but considering that Transco has had people going to China on business over the last few years... well, let's just say this: Get some samples of each company's electrodes and decide for yourself. The company who gave me the Transco samples also said they two different brands of electrodes seemed to process exactly the same as well. All things considered, it seems the deciding factor when choosing between the two brands (if there actually are two separate brands that are not coming from a single source) will be price and customer service.

There is however at least one discrepancy that cannot be determined merely by looking at each electrode: As I recall the JA electrodes are made with lead glass, whereas the Transco's are reported to be lead free. Add to this that a visual inspection will not reveal several other things, such as the purity of the metal shell, type of emission coating used, the quality of the plating on the shell, etc., etc.
