With all due respect, if good materials are used and the tube is well processed (proper glass & electrode temperature, quickly evacuated to less than 1 micron, etc.) the mercury is pure and everything else is how it should be, you should be able to dump the mercury in a hot tube (150°C / 300°F) on hot electrodes and not get any staining. You will get immediate vaporization of the mercury, which will cloud the glass of the electrode. But no staining due to chemical reactivity with the mercury.
