I've had one set up for around 10 years now. I built it out of a 3/4in threaded rod, a 1/4 hp quick-reversing motor, 2 limit switches, an up/down toggle switch with spring-return to center, and some 1in angle iron. 3 hours with a mig welder and it's been flawless. Very quick up/down movement with a 1700rpm motor.

Most reversing motors require a 4PDT contactor - which is expensive to find over 10 amps. I used two 2PDT contactors 30 amp - like that used for AC units and it has worked very well.
