A few years ago, we bought an Allanson Selektor to approximate tranny loads in our shop. The Selektor looks like a 15/30 tranny with some electronics attached and it can measure transformer loads from 2000 to 15000 volts, and tell you when you are overloaded on a 15,000. I never quite understood how the innards of the device can read different hv loads, but it's usually more accurate than our shop MA meter. Just wondered if anyone else has used this tool.

Having said that, I also agree that is it still best to do a final test with the sign in the field. This is especially true on jobs where GTO runs are placed in flex or conduit since this can really change the transformer load from what you might see in your shop.

Chris.
